The conguito catfish is a catfish of the family Ariidae and reaches 19.7 cm. It lives in Mexico, in fresh water, near the bottom, and little is known about its habits. The popular name conguito is used in Mexico. Like the other catfishes of the family, it has strong spines on the dorsal and pectoral fins that cause injuries. It is commercially fished and is rarely sought by rod anglers. Like other ariids, its body has no scales.

identification
Elongated catfish, without scales, with three pairs of barbels around the mouth, like all ariids. Being a small freshwater catfish that reaches 19.7 cm, it helps tell it apart from larger catfishes of the family. The dorsal and pectoral spines are the main care when handling the fish. Other Cathorops catfishes from Mexico look similar, so confirm the region.
