how to recognize it

identification

Body with two wide dark bands on the sides, and a third band at the base of the soft part of the dorsal fin, which runs to the caudal peduncle. The median fins have wide dark bands on the edges, and the pelvic fins are black except for the spine. To tell it apart from Chaetodon sedentarius, which has a single wide bar on the peduncle, look at the side bands: Chaetodon striatus has two on the body.
