fun facts
- It possibly occurs in almost all tropical regions of the world.
identification
Spindle-shaped body, a common form among bottom fish. The main clue for identifying it is where it is caught: depths of 200 to 610 m, far beyond the reach of shore fishing. Anglers fishing at those depths can bring it to the boat, while in shallow coastal waters it does not appear. So depth is the best clue to avoid confusing it with other fish.

catch and release
catch and release Releasing the fish alive, quickly and with a wet hand. During a closed season it isn't always allowed: what the regulation says applies.
It is harmless to handle. Since it is caught at great depth, it suffers barotrauma when brought up; if you release it, return it to the bottom carefully.
