identification
Deep-sea fish with an elongated body, as the species name indicates. Like the rest of the family, it has large, tubular eyes that point upward. It lives below 500 m, so it is rarely seen outside scientific collections and deep-water fisheries, and field identification is hard. Depth and the elongated body are the main clues.

catch and release Releasing the fish alive, quickly and with a wet hand. During a closed season it isn't always allowed: what the regulation says applies.
It poses no danger to anglers. If it is brought up from great depth, return it carefully, because the pressure change is large.
