It lives near the bottom, in deep waters of the southeastern Pacific, and has been recorded in Chile, including the Juan Fernández Islands, the only country in Latin America with a record. It is a deep-bottom fish, so it hardly ever turns up for anglers fishing shallow coastal waters. It is commercially fished and poses no danger to anglers.

identification

A fish with a spindle-shaped, slender body, of the rubyfish family (Emmelichthyidae), which usually have a small mouth and a forked tail. It lives near the bottom, in deep waters of Chile, including the Juan Fernández Islands. Location and depth are the main signs: it is not expected in shallow coastal waters, and that sets it apart from jacks and other coastal fish.
