ivinhema river — ivinhema
Floodplain (várzea) river of the Paraná basin in southern MS, with fishing cabins and inns. Dorado and surubim catch and release; the lower course is a state park.
The Ivinhema rises at the junction of the Brilhante and Vacaria rivers and flows southeast to the Paraná River, on the border with the state of Paraná, between gallery forests and floodplains (várzeas). At Ivinhema, the river forms the boundary with Nova Andradina and has fishing cabins and inns on its banks, according to the official state fishing guide, which lists dorado, surubim and piracanjuba as the river's fish. Added to them are migratory fish such as piapara and curimatã, and catfish such as jaú and barbado. In the lower course, the floodplains form the Várzeas do Rio Ivinhema State Park, created as compensation for the Engenheiro Sérgio Motta (Porto Primavera) hydroelectric plant.
