how to recognize it

identification

Scaleless catfish with a flattened head and barbels around the mouth, like the other ariids. It has strong spines on the dorsal and pectoral fins that call for care. It looks very much like the bagre-arenoso (Cathorops arenatus), which lives in the same region and reaches 25 cm, and the bagre-amarelo (Cathorops spixii), from the same genus. Telling the three apart in the field is hard, so treat them all with the same caution around the spines.

catch and release
catch and release Releasing the fish alive, quickly and with a wet hand. During a closed season it isn't always allowed: what the regulation says applies.

The spines on the dorsal and pectoral fins cut: hold it with a cloth, take the hook out with pliers and release it.
