identification
Small, elongated fish of the family Lebiasinidae, reaching 16 cm. Its flank has no dark longitudinal band and shows a series of round spots, which helps separate it from its relatives: Lebiasina bimaculata, from Ecuador and Peru, has two spots on the body, and Lebiasina multimaculata, from southwestern Colombia, has many small spots. Its range, northern Ecuador and southern Colombia west of the Andes, also helps.
