Triple border with Argentina and Uruguay, where the Quaraí meets the Uruguay River. Big dorado and surubim.
Barra do Quaraí sits where the Quaraí River meets the Uruguay, with Argentina and Uruguay on the other side. The river is wide, with current and a rock bottom, islands and channels. It's a big dorado area, fished with trolling and casting in rapids and rocky points, and surubim, armado and piava on the bottom. Jundiá and trahira in the lagoons and arms. Uruguaiana, upriver, has town infrastructure and access to the same river.
best season
Autumn, March to May, is the best window. Spring is also good before the spawning closure; confirm the closed-season dates.
Local rules: In RS, dorado catch has been banned for years (protected species in the state): release every one. Border river: stay in Brazilian waters. Spawning closure (piracema) in the Uruguay basin (confirm the dates). Check local rules.
