who is the parassi mullet
Mullet of the family Mugilidae, with a fusiform body, living mostly in estuaries and brackish waters, but also entering the sea and hypersaline waters. It reaches 40 cm. To spawn, adults gather in small groups at the mouths of rivers and coastal streams early in the year. The female lays millions of large, yolk-rich eggs that are pelagic. Juveniles travel long distances up swamps and coastal rivers in search of food and shelter. It has little commercial use, is sold fresh or salted, and salted dried roe is considered a delicacy.

identification
Mullet with the typical spindle-shaped body of its group. The popular name tainha-olho-de-amarelho suggests its yellowish eye. Males reach 40 cm and females 35 cm. Habitat also sets this species apart: it lives mostly in estuaries and brackish waters, more than in the open sea.
