paraná river — panorama and paulicéia

The Paraná River at the head of the Porto Primavera lake, on the border with Mato Grosso do Sul. A city with a fishing tradition, known for barbado, mandi and surubim.

Paulicéia and Panorama face Mato Grosso do Sul across the river, where the Paraná begins to form the lake of the Porto Primavera hydroelectric plant, well upstream of Presidente Epitácio. Paulicéia bills itself as the town born for fishing: it has a traditional fishing tournament, a municipal riverside resort and the cable-stayed bridge to the neighboring state. Fishing monitoring by UFMS and Cesp, with one of its landing points in Panorama and Paulicéia, showed how important scaleless catfish are in the lake: mandi, the most numerous, barbado, surubim, jurupoca and jurupensém, and some anglers go after surubim on purpose. It is big-river fishing, from a boat, with natural bait on the bottom of the channels and banks.
