Lake behind the Capivara dam on the middle Paranapanema, on the border with São Paulo. Peacock bass and croaker are the main targets, with trahira, mandi and piau.
The Capivara reservoir, formed by the Escola de Engenharia Mackenzie dam, floods the middle Paranapanema on the border between Paraná and São Paulo, and on the Paraná side it receives the Tibagi and das Cinzas rivers. Alvorada do Sul has about 140 km of shoreline on the lake, with thousands of weekend country homes and tilapia farming in net pens. A survey by the Universidade Estadual de Londrina recorded 67 fish species in the reservoir: peacock bass was the most numerous species in the Porecatu stretch, closer to the dam, and croaker turned up in quantity in every stretch. In sport fishing, peacock bass hit on points, flooded timber and banks with lures, and croaker in the bottom of the channels; trahira, mandi, piapara, timboré and piau-três-pintas complete the list for bank and chum fishing.
best season
Warm season, October to April, for peacock bass and croaker. During the spawning closure (piracema, Nov 1 to Feb 28), only non-native species in the reservoir.
Local rules: Spawning closure (piracema) in the Paraná basin, Nov 1 to Feb 28 (IN Ibama 25/2009): in the reservoir, only non-native species (peacock bass, croaker, tilapia), up to 10 kg plus 1 fish, no animal bait from aquatic animals (except live farmed fish with a note), and never less than 1,500 m from the dam or 500 m from confluences; in the Tibagi and das Cinzas rivers and their tributaries fishing is banned for the period, and tournaments are allowed only on the reservoir and only with non-native species. Lambari is under closed season in public reservoirs from Nov 1 to Feb 28. In Paraná, dorado may only be fished catch and release (state law 19.789/2018). Check local rules.

- Alvorada do Sul is about 70 km from Londrina, where the nearest airport is, and about 455 km from Curitiba. Access is via PR-090.

- Municipal landing with a ramp and cleaning sinks for fish, about 4,000 weekend homes on the shore (many for rent), simple hotels and inns, and one lodging with boat access near the river.

Start in the lower part of the lake, heading toward Porecatu, where the UEL survey found the most peacock bass: points and flooded timber with mid-water lures, always far from the dam. For croaker, use bait on the bottom of the deeper channels.
