coremas and mãe d'água reservoirs
Paraíba's largest reservoir system, in the Piancó backlands. Peacock bass and croaker in a caatinga lake.
Coremas and Mãe d'Água are two connected reservoirs that form Paraíba's largest, in the backlands, between the Piancó and Aguiar rivers. The landscape is caatinga and hills, with long arms and rocks. Peacock bass and croaker (pescada-do-piauí), introduced in Northeast reservoirs, are the targets of sport fishing; tilapia and trahira complete the catch. The town of Coremas sits by the dam, with a waterfront and small fishermen's landings.
