castanhão reservoir — jaguaribara
Largest reservoir in Ceará, on the Jaguaribe River. Peacock bass and croaker in warm water all year.
The Castanhão dams the Jaguaribe River and is the largest reservoir in Ceará. Its volume varies a lot with droughts: in dry years the lake shrinks and exposes dead trees and rocks. Peacock bass in the logs and points, Piauí croaker on the bottom and in the channels, tilapia and trahira along the banks. Tilapia are farmed in floating cages, which concentrate fish around them. Boat and bank fishing, with artificial and natural baits. Strong heat: fish early and late in the afternoon.
