Paranaíba reservoir between Goiás and Minas, near the BR-153. Peacock bass and corvina on fishing weekends.

The Itumbiara hydroelectric reservoir floods the Paranaíba and the valleys of its tributaries above the city, between Goiás and Minas Gerais. It sits near the BR-153 and draws many anglers from Goiânia and the Triângulo Mineiro. Sport fishing is for peacock bass at points and submerged timber and for corvina in the channels. On chum, piau and curimbatá; tilapia and trahira in the shallow coves. The lake level varies with power generation, and fishing spots change from year to year.

Autumn and early spring. During the piracema (Nov 1 to Feb 28), in reservoirs, only non-native species.

Local rules: Border lake: the Minas bank follows Minas rules. In Goiás, zero transport quota for 4 years from May 28, 2026 (IN Semad 17/2026): natives for consumption on site only, up to 5 kg; exotics and hybrids may be taken with a license. Paraná basin piracema from Nov 1 to Feb 28. Dam safety zones prohibited. Check local rules.
