peixe angical lake — peixe
Lake behind the Peixe Angical dam, in southern Tocantins. Blue and yellow peacock bass in the lake, and rapids with islands downriver.
The Peixe Angical dam impounded the Tocantins River in the municipality of Peixe, in the south of the state, about 285 km from Palmas, forming a lake upstream of the dam. It is upper Tocantins water, with stone points, submerged timber and flooded arms: blue peacock bass, native to the basin, and yellow peacock bass are the targets, with pescada-do-piauí in the deep and cachorra and bicuda where there is still current. On the free-flowing stretch below the dam, the Tocantins forms the Tropeço Archipelago in the municipality of Peixe, with hundreds of islands, channels and rapids, where the caranha, as pirapitinga is called in Tocantins, is fished in the channels. Boat-based casting: surface lures early, mid-water and jigs for the rest of the day.
best season
Dry season, June to October, with clearer water and structures exposed. Piracema on the Tocantins from Nov 1 to Feb 28.

Blue and yellow peacock bass only between 30 and 50 cm, and dourada and piabanha are prohibited at any size (Portaria Naturatins 47/2026). Tocantins spawning closure (piracema) from Nov 1 to Feb 28 (INI MPA/MMA 13/2011): amateur fishing only in reservoirs, with consumption on site; in the 2025/26 season, Naturatins banned all fishing in the state's rivers and lakes, except catch and release with barbless hooks (Portaria 244/2025), so check the 2026/27 season ordinance.
