fortaleza — coast and boat fishing
Bottom fishing and trolling (corrico) from Mucuripe, over rocks and reefs off the Ceará coast. Cavala (king mackerel), cioba (mutton snapper) and guaiuba (dog snapper).
Fortaleza has boat fishing all year, with departures from Mucuripe to the parcéis and platform rocks. For bottom fishing: cioba, guaiúba, ariacó and dentão; for trolling (corrico): king mackerel (cavala), sororoca and barracuda, and sea dorado farther offshore. From the Beira-Mar and Praia de Iracema jetties, casting is also an option. About 10 nautical miles offshore is the Pedra da Risca do Meio State Marine Park, the only fully submerged conservation unit in Ceará.
best season
First half of the year, with lighter winds. From July to December, the strong Ceará winds leave the sea choppy and make departures difficult.
Local rules: Pedra da Risca do Meio State Marine Park: strictly protected unit, expanded to about 4,700 hectares in 2021; do not fish inside its limits. Lobster: fishing only with traps (covo) and cangalha, more than 4 miles out, and diving prohibited year-round (Portaria Interministerial MPA/MMA 56/2026). Goliath grouper (mero) and sharks are threatened: capture prohibited. Check local rules.
