Coastal reefs, parrachos and the easternmost point of the Americas. Bottom fishing and trolling from a boat near the city.
João Pessoa has a line of coastal reefs, the parrachos (coastal reefs), which form natural pools at low tide, such as Picãozinho, in Tambaú, and Seixas, at the easternmost point of the Americas. Beyond them, boat fishing targets cubera snapper (cioba), mutton snapper (guaiuba) and lane snapper (ariacó) over rock bottoms, and king mackerel, wahoo, barracuda and crevalle jack on trolling. At the mouth of the Paraíba River, in Cabedelo, there are snook and tarpon. It is a short half-day trip, a few minutes from the waterfront.
best season
Spring and summer, September to March, with less rain and calmer seas. From April to July it rains more and the sea turns murky.
Local rules: The parrachos are visitor areas with their own rules, and in Cabedelo sits the Parque Estadual Marinho de Areia Vermelha, a full-protection area where fishing is not allowed: check with Sudema. Don't anchor on live coral. Lobster: diving prohibited all year (Portaria Interministerial MPA/MMA 56/2026). Goliath grouper: harvest prohibited. Check local rules.

On rock bottoms near the parrachos, use a light sinker and sardine or squid bait: mutton snapper feed in mid-water above the rock.
