Mongaguá's fishing platform is a concrete structure that reaches about 400 meters out to sea and ends in a T shape, allowing anglers to fish beyond the surf, where the water is deeper. It is one of the largest fishing platforms in the country and draws anglers from all over the Baixada Santista and the capital. Pompano, betara and croaker are the most common fish; cutlassfish, sororoca and robalo-peva appear by season. Bottom fishing with shrimp, sardine or corrupto, and casting with artificial lures when schools come in.

All year. Pompano and betara do best in summer; croaker and cutlassfish in autumn and winter.

Local rules: In December 2025 the platform was open 24 hours, with a paid entrance, and the city hall announced revitalization works with no date yet: check hours, price and whether it's open before you go. Minimum sizes in the Southeast: croaker 25 cm, betara 20 cm, robalo-peva 30 cm (IN MMA 53/2005). Miraguaia and goliath grouper: harvest prohibited. Check local rules.

getting there: About 100 km from São Paulo via the Imigrantes and Padre Manoel da Nóbrega highways. The platform is on Avenida Governador Mário Covas Júnior, on the waterfront.
facilities: Ticket booth at the entrance, restrooms, kiosks and bait shops on the waterfront. The town has inns and restaurants.
coast: Southeast Coast

tip

On the platform, a pyramid sinker holds better in the side current. Bring a landing net or a long-handled gaff: the fish has to be lifted several meters up to the deck.
