Recife's coast has dozens of wrecks a few kilometers offshore, plus reef lines and shoals. It's bottom and mid-water fishing: cioba, dentão, guaiúba and lane snapper on the structure, olho-de-boi and barracuda above it. Spanish mackerel trolling at the passage. In the region's rivers and estuaries, camurupim draws fly and casting anglers. The sea is calmer in summer. Fishing boats leave from Recife and Jaboatão.

Local rules: Goliath grouper (mero): catch banned nationwide. Recife and Jaboatão's coast has a history of shark incidents: don't get in the water with fish or bait. Check local rules. Camurupim is a threatened species (Vulnerable): catch and release only, preferably without lifting the fish out of the water; capture, retention and transport are prohibited.
