itupararanga reservoir — ibiúna
A century-old reservoir on the Rio Sorocaba, about 100 km from São Paulo. Trahira, curimbatá, lambari and mandi in weekend fishing.
Itupararanga is the reservoir of the dam built at the start of the 20th century in the Rio Sorocaba canyon, between Votorantim, Ibiúna and Piedade, and today it also supplies cities in the Sorocaba region. The lake is about 40 km long, fills the valleys of the Sorocabuçu and Sorocamirim rivers, and is ringed by weekend homes, marinas, inns and small beaches. It lies within the Itupararanga APA, where fishing is allowed. The state's official guide to protected areas lists trahira, curimbatá, lambari, saguiru, cascudo, peixe-cachorro and mandi among the reservoir's fish. It is simple fishing close to the capital: trahira in the shallow coves, lambari and curimbatá for chum.
