Lake on the Araguari River between Uberlândia and Indianópolis, lined with fishing cabins and platforms. Yellow and blue peacock bass, trahira and chum fishing.
The Miranda hydroelectric plant, built in 1998, dammed the Araguari River just below Nova Ponte and formed a lake of about 50 km² between Uberlândia, Indianópolis, Uberaba and Nova Ponte. The lake became a leisure hub of the Triângulo Mineiro: gated communities and fishing cabins line almost the whole shore, and a boat club with a ramp and fishing platforms are spread across the reservoir. Sport fishing centers on yellow and blue peacock bass and trahira, caught with artificial lures from boats; at the chummed platforms, anglers catch mandi, piau, piapara and trahira. Tournaments have been held on the lake since 2009, and in 2026 the Indianópolis city government held its first boat tournament, with artificial lures only and catch and release.
best season
March to October, outside the spawning closure; the Indianópolis municipal tournament was held in June. During the spawning closure (Nov 1 to Feb 28), only non-native species, such as peacock bass.
Local rules: Spawning closure (piracema) in the Grande and Paranaíba river basins from Nov 1 to Feb 28 (Portaria IEF 156/2011): only non-native species, up to 3 kg plus 1 specimen; fishing is banned within 1,500 m of dams, and the Araguari River and its tributaries are closed during this period (art. 3º, XIV), so confirm with IEF before fishing the lake. Minimum sizes in Minas Gerais (Portaria IEF 111/2003): trahira 30 cm, piapara 40 cm, piau-três-pintas 25 cm, mandi 25 cm. Check local rules.

Peacock bass in the lake respond well to artificial lures around the submerged timber and points; at the platforms, chum with corn or dough bait and fish for piau and mandi on the bottom.
