Triângulo Mineiro reservoir, famous for peacock bass, with long arms and clear water.

Nova Ponte dam flooded the Araguari River and tributary valleys in the Triângulo Mineiro, between Uberlândia and Uberaba, forming a long lake full of arms. It became known for peacock bass fishing, especially around submerged timber, points and rock walls. Croaker in the channels, trahira in the coves, piau and curimbatá at chum. The town of Nova Ponte was rebuilt on the shore when the lake filled.

Warm months, September to March. During Minas Gerais's spawning closure (piracema, Nov 1 to Feb 28), only exotic and hybrid species, such as peacock bass, with a reduced bag limit.

Local rules: In Minas Gerais, the spawning closure (piracema) runs Nov 1 to Feb 28 in all basins: only exotic and hybrid species, up to 3 kg plus 1 fish per day. Outside it, a bag limit of 10 kg plus 1 fish. IEF fishing license required. Respect the minimum distances from the dam. Check local rules.
