Blackwater tributary of the lower Branco River, near Santa Maria do Boiaçu. Açu peacock bass with a limited number of anglers.
The Itapará runs about 200 km and empties into the lower Branco River near the village of Santa Maria do Boiaçu, in southern Roraima. It is one of the blackwater rivers that state law reserved for sport fishing and riverside subsistence, and Femarh set for it the lowest number of fishers among the three rivers in its ordinance. The target is açu peacock bass, with borboleta and popoca lures, and aruanã, cachorra and bicuda along the banks. In March 2026, MPF and MPRR reported that an agreement like Xeruini's was in its final stage for the Itapará and the Curiucú and Matá-Matá lakes, in the Itapará/Boiaçú RDS.

Dry season, October to February. In Roraima, from Mar 1 to Jun 30 all rivers are under closed season (Portaria Ibama 48/2007).
Local rules: Lei RR 1.540/2021 (amended by Lei 2.112/2025): in the Itapará and its tributaries, commercial and recreational peacock bass fishing is banned; only sport fishing by a company licensed by Femarh is allowed, with a maximum of 2 barbless hooks per bait, plus riverside subsistence fishing. Portaria Femarh 1/2011 bans treble hooks and limits the number of sport anglers on the river. Closed season in Roraima from March 1 to June 30 on all rivers (Portaria Ibama 48/2007). Check local rules.
