tocantins and itacaiúnas rivers — marabá

Where the Itacaiúnas meets the Tocantins, in southeastern Pará. Beaches in the dry season, and fishing for blue peacock bass, cachorra and pescada.

Marabá was born at the Pontal, where the Itacaiúnas flows into the left bank of the Tocantins and the two rivers form a Y in the middle of the city, about 500 km from Belém. In the Amazonian summer, June to September, the rivers drop and sandy beaches appear, such as Geladinho and Espírito Santo, which the town hall lists among its tourist routes; in the flood season, the Tocantins rises many meters and floods the low areas. Fishing is that of the middle Tocantins: blue and yellow peacock bass in the rocky stretches and eddies, cachorra and bicuda in the current, pescada-do-piauí and pirarara in the pools, apapá hunting in mid-water. The Itacaiúnas is the alternative for those who want to get away from the crowds on the main channel.

tip

In the dry season, big blue peacock bass hold on the rocky stretches where the current is weak: heavy mid-water lures, retrieved in short jerks close to the rock, outperform surface lures.
