The Pará stretch of the Araguaia, with beaches in the dry season and peacock bass lakes along the banks. Border with Tocantins.
Conceição do Araguaia sits on the Pará bank of the Araguaia, across from Tocantins, on a stretch of wide river, with islands and beaches that appear in the dry season. Fishing follows the classic Araguaia route: blue and yellow peacock bass in the lakes and side arms, cachorra and bicuda in the currents, pirarara and barbado in the pools on bottom bait, pescada and aruanã along the edges. During July holidays, the town sets up campsites and the river fills with boats.

Beach season, June to September. Araguaia spawning closure (piracema) from Nov 1 to Feb 28.
Local rules: Araguaia spawning closure (IN Interministerial MPA/MMA 12/2011) from Nov 1 to Feb 28: in rivers, amateur fishing is prohibited. In Pará, sport anglers practice catch and release and consume only on site (Decreto PA 5.271/2026). The Tocantins bank follows Tocantins rules, which prohibit transporting fish until 2029. Arapaima has its own rules. Check local rules.
