Salinópolis, the Salinas of the paraenses, sits on Pará's Atlantic coast, in a region of wide beaches, mangroves and big tidal swings. Fishing follows the tide: on the flood, pescada-amarela, snook and camurupim (tarpon) enter the channels and igarapé mouths; at Atalaia beach and on the points, sororoca, jack (xaréu) and king mackerel (cavala) chase sardine schools. Surf-zone fishing, canoe fishing in the igarapés and boat fishing offshore. In July, the town fills with summer visitors.

Driest period, August to December, with less murky water and more predictable seas. July is peak beach season.

Local rules: In Pará, amateur sea fishing is for personal consumption only, with no sale, and protected species may not be taken (Decreto PA 5.271/2026). Camurupim (tarpon) is a threatened species (Vulnerable): catch and release only, capture and transport prohibited. The Pará coast has several marine extractive reserves, with their own use rules. Strong tide: be careful about the return tide for anyone wading on sandbanks. Check local rules.
