DNOCS açude (reservoir) in the Paraíba Cariri, near Campina Grande, with peacock bass in the rocks and submerged timber, clear water and caatinga scenery.

The Epitácio Pessoa, which everyone calls Boqueirão, dams the Paraíba River in the Cariri and was built by DNOCS between 1951 and 1956. The level varies a lot with droughts, and the açude receives water from the São Francisco transposition along the Paraíba riverbed. Sport fishing is for peacock bass, with persistent casting around submerged timber, rocks and boulders, from a boat: guides cite the pinima peacock bass, introduced a few years ago, as well as the common peacock bass of the açudes. Tilapia, trahira and freshwater croaker complete the list, and the açude also supports many professional fishers.
