Gateway to the Cantão, the plain of lakes between the Araguaia, Javaés and Coco rivers. Fishing around it; not inside the park.
Caseara sits on the banks of the Coco River, near its meeting with the Araguaia and the Javaés, in the Cantão region: a plain of hundreds of lakes and channels that floods in the high-water season and becomes a fish nursery. The heart of the area is the Cantão State Park, where fishing is prohibited. Around it, in rivers and lakes outside the park, fishing is for blue and yellow peacock bass, aruanã, cachorra, bicuda and pescada, with pirarara in the Araguaia pools. It is also a destination for birdwatching and river dolphins.

Dry season, June to September. Tocantins piracema from Nov 1 to Feb 28.
Local rules: Cantão State Park: strictly protected unit, with fishing, hunting and camping prohibited; Naturatins enforcement is frequent. In Tocantins, transporting fish caught by amateur and sport anglers is prohibited from March 1, 2026 to February 28, 2029 (Portaria Naturatins 44/2026), with consumption on site up to 3 kg. Dourada and piabanha are prohibited in the state. Piracema from Nov 1 to Feb 28. Check local rules.

The lakes around it are isolated in the dry season and peacock bass concentrate: arrive early, quietly, and fish the submerged timber with mid-water lures.
