cap cana — punta cana
Marina on the east tip of the Dominican Republic, facing the Mona Passage, with blue and white marlin close to shore.
Cap Cana sits at the eastern end of the island, near Punta Cana, where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean in the Mona Passage. Deep water comes close to shore, and the fleet reaches the fishing grounds quickly. Trolling with artificial and natural lures targets blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish, with days of plenty of action in season. Mahi-mahi, wahoo and yellowfin tuna round out the list. The Marina Cap Cana has an offshore fishing fleet and runs catch and release for billfish.
best season
White marlin show up more in spring, March to June; blue marlin peak in summer, June to September. Mahi-mahi and wahoo deliver for much of the year.
Local rules: Sport/tourist fishing license from CODOPESCA (Law 307-04). Marina Cap Cana requires billfish to be released at the place of capture, quickly and unharmed. Confirm with the operator whether the license is included and check local rules.
