jericoacoara and camocim
Dune village on Ceará's west coast, inside a national park. Trolling for king mackerel offshore and snook in the Camocim rivers.
Jericoacoara is a fishing village that became one of the country's most famous destinations, surrounded by Jericoacoara National Park. At sea, the village's jangadas and boats catch king mackerel (cavala), sororoca and jack (xaréu) by trolling and by line. For sport anglers, the best is in the surroundings: the Camocim and Guriú River estuaries and mangroves have snook, camurupim (tarpon) and pescada-amarela. Fishing can be combined with the dunes and lagoons route, but it needs to be arranged with local boatmen.
best season
First half of the year, with lighter winds. July to December is kitesurfing season, with strong winds and choppy seas.
Local rules: Jericoacoara National Park: strictly protected unit; inside the boundaries, amateur fishing is not open and depends on the management plan and ICMBio authorization. Camurupim (tarpon) is a threatened species (Vulnerable): catch and release only. Lobster: diving prohibited year-round (Portaria Interministerial MPA/MMA 56/2026). Check local rules.
