manguaba lagoon — marechal deodoro and pilar

Lagoon of about 42 km² between Pilar and Marechal Deodoro, linked to the sea by the channels of the Mundaú-Manguaba complex. Snook near the channels.

The Manguaba, together with Mundaú Lagoon, forms the estuarine-lagoon complex that connects to the sea by channels south of Maceió. The lagoon receives the Paraíba do Meio and Sumaúma rivers and has mangrove shores, islands and shallow coves. Near the connecting channel, peva snook, carapeba and mullet come in; in the inner stretches, fishing is for trahira and tilapia. Marechal Deodoro, Alagoas' first capital, and Pilar sit on the lagoon's shores, and fishing is by boat, with boatmen from both towns.
