The lake behind the Chavantes dam, full of bays and islands, on the border with São Paulo. Blue peacock bass, croaker and pacu.
The Chavantes dam impounds the Paranapanema and the Itararé on the border between Paraná and São Paulo, in a large lake cut by bays and islands. Carlópolis is on the Paraná shore, on the Itararé arm, and draws thousands of tourists and anglers attracted by the variety of fish; on Ponciano Island, next to the town, a sport fishing tournament takes place. The lake holds blue peacock bass, sought with artificial lures on points and flooded timber, and croaker, fished on the bottom of the channels. On the São Paulo side, at Chavantes, the annual fishing championship has already been described as a festival of pacu and croaker, and in Carlópolis juvenile curimbatá and pacu were released into the reservoir.
best season
Warm season, October to April, for blue peacock bass and croaker. During the spawning closure (piracema, Nov 1 to Feb 28), only non-native species: pacu and curimbatá are excluded.
Local rules: Spawning closure (piracema) in the Paraná basin, Nov 1 to Feb 28 (IN Ibama 25/2009): in the reservoir, only non-native species (peacock bass, croaker, tilapia), up to 10 kg plus 1 fish, no animal bait from aquatic animals (except live farmed fish with a note), and never less than 1,500 m from the dam or 500 m from confluences; pacu and curimbatá, which are native, may not be kept during the period, and tournaments are allowed only with non-native species. Lambari is under closed season in public reservoirs from Nov 1 to Feb 28. Check local rules.

- Carlópolis is about 369 km from Curitiba, via PR-092. The 1.5 km interstate bridge on PR-218 links the town with the São Paulo side of the lake.
