Navigable stretch of the Taquari next to the Bom Retiro do Sul dam and lock, with a ramp and marina. Surubim, jundiá, trahira and piava.
In Bom Retiro do Sul, in the Vale do Taquari, a dam with a lock keeps the river navigable as far as the river port of Estrela. Next to it is the Eclusa Tourist Complex, with a ramp for sport and fishing boats, a marina for about 50 boats, a bar and a restaurant. According to the RS Tourism Secretariat, surubim is the fish most often found in the region; in the Taquari, that surubim is a Pimelodus catfish, not a surubim. Fishing is bottom fishing with natural bait for surubim and jundiá, with piava and trahira along the banks, and dorado also turns up in the river.

Autumn and spring, outside the spawning closure (piracema). From Nov 1 to Jan 31 the southern basins closed season applies: single hook only, one gear per angler and up to 5 kg.

Dorado is on the RS list of threatened species, Endangered in the Laguna dos Patos basin (Decree 51.797/2014): good practice is to release it. The dam and lock serve commercial navigation: respect the signs and barge traffic. Check local rules.
