At São Félix, the Xingu is wide, shallow in many stretches and full of rock beds, islands and rapids. The water clears in low water and sight fishing is strong. Trairão in the eddies with logs, payara and bicuda in the current, peacock bass on the banks and lagoons, pirarara and jaú in the deep pools. Casting with surface and mid-water lures for predators, bottom fishing with natural bait for the catfish. Navigation requires an experienced pilot: a hidden rock is the rule, not the exception.
best season
Low water, July to November. Low water, clear water and fish on the rock beds.
Local rules: Large areas of the Xingu are indigenous lands, such as those of the Kayapó people: without authorization, no fishing there. Check local rules.
