salvador and bay of all saints
Brazil's largest bay, with islands, shipwrecks and mangroves. Crevalle jack, king mackerel and snook minutes from downtown.
Bay of All Saints has dozens of islands, including Itaparica, Maré and Frades, and a bottom full of wrecks and rocks. Boat fishing targets mutton snapper (guaiuba), lane snapper (ariacó) and olho-de-boi over rock bottoms and wrecks, and crevalle jack, king mackerel, barracuda and sororoca on trolling and casting. Snook live in the mangroves at the head of the bay and in the rivers that feed it, such as the Paraguaçu. Short-run trips, with boats leaving from the city and the islands.
best season
Spring and summer, September to March, with calmer seas. Snook closed season in Bahia, May 15 to Jul 31.
Local rules: Snook closed season in Bahia, May 15 to Jul 31: harvest, transport and sale prohibited. Closed season for caranha (dog snapper), sirigado and badejo, Aug 1 to Sep 30. The bay is a state Environmental Protection Area, managed by Inema. Ship and ferry traffic: stay out of the channels. Goliath grouper: harvest prohibited. Check local rules.

Big crevalle jack hunt the rock points and the bay entrance at the tide change: a big popper and heavy line, since they pull hard toward the rocks.
