Mangrove estuary on the Sergipe–Bahia border, facing the dunes of Mangue Seco. Snook in the channels and at the mouth.
The Piauí and Real rivers join at the southern tip of Sergipe and form a wide estuary of mangroves, croas (sandbanks) and channels, reaching the sea between Pontal, in Indiaroba, and the Mangue Seco dunes, already in Bahia. Snook is among the highest-value fish in the estuary's artisanal fishing, along with mullet, according to the statistical bulletin of Sergipe's coastal fishing. The recreational angler targets peva and flecha snook in the mangrove roots and at channel mouths; mullet, carapeba, jack and yellow weakfish at the mouth and on the sandbars; tarpon appears in the channels. Boats from Pontal cross to Mangue Seco.
best season
Summer, December to March, with snook most active in the mangrove channels. On the Bahia side, snook closed season May 15 to Jul 31.
Local rules: Tarpon is a threatened species (Vulnerable): catch and release only, preferably without lifting the fish out of the water. The Real River is the border with Bahia: on the Bahia side, at Mangue Seco, the Bahia snook closed season applies, May 15 to Jul 31 (Portaria Ibama 49-N/1992). Heavy artisanal fishing in the estuary: watch out for nets. Strong current and waves at the bar. Check local rules.

- Indiaroba is about 100 km from Aracaju, which has an airport. From Pontal, the launch crossing to Mangue Seco takes about 15 minutes.
