araranguá river mouth — araranguá
The shifting sandbar at the mouth of the Araranguá River, near Morro dos Conventos, and the neighboring surfcasting beaches, such as Arroio do Silva. Snook, croaker, mullet and papa-terra.
The Araranguá River reaches the sea near Morro dos Conventos, at the far south of Santa Catarina, and the mouth is not fixed: it moves along almost 10 km of beach. In the brackish water at the mouth come robalo-peva, croaker and mullet; in the community of Ilhas, by the river mouth, cast-net fishing is part of local tradition. On the open beach, such as neighboring Balneário Arroio do Silva, casting yields papa-terra, pompano and, outside the closed season, bluefish. It is open-sea coast with strong wind and little shelter.
best season
Spring and summer for snook, croaker, papa-terra and pompano. From Mar 15 to Aug 15 the mouth is closed to fishing for the mullet run, and bluefish are under closed season from Dec 1 to Mar 31.
