torres — cliffs and ilha dos lobos
The only rocky shores on Rio Grande do Sul's coast, with jetties and Ilha dos Lobos offshore. Bluefish and sargo on the rocks.
Torres has the basalt cliffs that break up the straight beaches of Rio Grande do Sul, such as Morro do Farol, Guarita and Torre Sul, and the jetties of the Mampituba River, on the border with Santa Catarina. It is the place on the state's coast for rocky-shore fishing: bluefish at the points, sargo-de-dente and croaker on the rocks, betara and pompano on nearby beaches. Facing the town is Ilha dos Lobos, a refuge for fur seals and sea lions in winter.
