lago de itaparica — petrolândia
Luiz Gonzaga dam lake, between Pernambuco and Bahia, with the submerged church tower of Petrolândia. Croaker and tilapia.
Lago de Itaparica was formed by the Luiz Gonzaga dam and covered the old town of Petrolândia, whose church tower still shows above the water. It is a large lake in the São Francisco backlands, between Pernambuco and Bahia, with many tilapia fish farms in net cages. Recreational fishing targets croaker in the channels and points, trahira in the shallow coves, and tilapia, mandi and piau at chum. The caatinga landscape and lakeside beaches round out the trip.
