Sheltered bay with dozens of islands, rocky shores and mangroves. Snook, grouper and olhete a few minutes from the historic town.
Paraty Bay is sheltered, full of islands, coves and rocky shores, with mangroves at the mouths of rivers that run down from the mountains. It is small-boat fishing: snook at river mouths, rocky shores and shallow rocks, grouper and olhete around the outer islands, crevalle jack and sororoca at the points. In winter, cutlassfish enter the bay. The historic town, protected islands and the Península da Juatinga make the region one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country.

Autumn and spring for snook and island fish; winter for cutlassfish and bluefish in the bays. Grouper (garoupa) closed season Nov 1 to Feb 28.
Local rules: Islands and ledges of the Estação Ecológica de Tamoios are full protection: fishing prohibited. The region also has the Cairuçu APA and the Juatinga Ecological Reserve, with their own rules. Grouper (garoupa): closed season Nov 1 to Feb 28 and slot limit 47 to 73 cm. Robalo-flecha minimum 50 cm and peva 30 cm in the Southeast. Goliath grouper: harvest prohibited. Check local rules.
