canavieiras and ilhéus

One of Brazil's best blue marlin spots. Snook and camurupim in the extractive reserve's estuary.

Canavieiras is a billfish offshore destination: blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish, plus mahi-mahi, tuna and cavala-empinge on trolling. The blue marlin season draws boats from across the country and has traditional tournaments. In the estuary and mangroves of the extractive reserve, snook and camurupim provide casting between trips out to sea. Ilhéus, to the north, has city infrastructure and an airport. Trips to the blue water are long: prepare the boat and use an experienced crew.
